Microplastic Analysis Services

The Moore Institute for Plastic Pollution Research provides California-certified microplastic analysis services for drinking water utilities, regulatory agencies, researchers, and industry partners. As of September 1, 2024, we are certified by the State of California to analyze microplastics in drinking water under approved SWB-MP1 methods, making us the first non-profit laboratory accredited for regulatory microplastic testing in the state.

Our laboratory is certified under:

Field of Accreditation 102 – Inorganic Chemistry of Drinking Water

The approved standard test methods are

  • 102.290 001 – Microplastics > 500 μm (SWB-MP1-rev1)
  • 102.290 002 – Microplastics 500–212 μm (SWB-MP1-rev1)
  • 102.290 003 – Microplastics 212–50 μm (SWB-MP1-rev1)

Beyond drinking water analysis, our laboratory performs microplastic testing across a wide range of environmental and biological matrices.

We deliver comprehensive microplastic analysis through novel hyperspectral imaging processes and high-throughput particle identification.
